We offer Staff Training
Learning how to be Trauma Informed
We believe that we must heal ourselves to be our best serving self. In order to better serve community members we must explore and unravel our own experiences. Through experiential training sessions your staff will learn different tools to apply to their trauma work when working with individuals or groups. Our training is beneficial for those who work in the helping profession and want to understand the intersection of trauma and marginalized identities.
We offer Trauma Informed Supervision for Social Workers working in the helping profession.
Those who support front line social workers carry a unique load in service delivery to clients, patients, and students. We offer support to those supervisors through 1-2 hour sessions that focus on the pillars of trauma-informed supervision. We provide opportunities to debrief and unpack the difficult situations, decisions, and interactions. This is intense work that is supported in a peer/mentor style of service. We have been in some of these situations or in similar situations and we understand the pressure that comes with middle managing in large systems.
Trauma in schools is often expected to be associated with a “lockdown” or a school emergency. But the reality is that young people who experience trauma at home or in the community will bring those experiences into the education setting. Those experiences are re-enacted through behaviour in the classroom and the playground, disrupting other students and preventing everyone from learning. Creating Trauma-Informed Schools is an important step in ensuring that the resilience of children and the roles schools play in trauma are recognized. Building on that resilience helps students learn. Giving schools the information they need to handle the symptoms of traumatic experiences helps teachers and school administrators do their work well. Trauma-Informed schools nurture all children with the goal of giving them good emotional and academic education, equipping learners to grow and blossom. Asabiyyah can give your school that Trauma-Informed perspective in an educational setting. We have experience in school systems and our specialists can consult with teachers on specific situations, provide team training, and partner in developing safe strategies that help all the students in the class.
Foster Care/Kinship Provider Training- Trauma Centered Care
Children who are admitted into care or our placed with family have experienced trauma, grief, and loss. Those who care for these children need the best tools and training to meet the emotional needs of these children. We offer training that gives alternative caregivers the understanding of how traumatic events, grief, and loss affect the behaviour of the children in their care and how to comfort these children and promote healing. We have foster parents on our team who are trained to support their peers with respect to trauma and caregiving. Our trained facilitators can provide 8-12 weeks of group learning with respect to trauma, its impact also on the brain, and how it informs behaviour. Our collective offers group training or specialized plans to work within the home with family and caregivers.
